DELI DELI is an homage to the slightly down-and-out neighborhood delis scattered throughout Brooklyn and New York City. Bright signs, crowded windows, too much stuff, questionable cleanliness and a little bit of chaos.

These are the places that somehow stay open forever. There might be a cat wandering around chasing mice, an ice cream freezer you’re not entirely sure about, and shelves packed with things that may have been there since 1997.

The painting embraces that clutter and imperfection with thick paint, distorted architecture, scratched surfaces and competing colors. Everything feels a little crooked, overloaded and worn down, but still strangely inviting.

A portrait of a very particular kind of New York institution: messy, colorful, imperfect and still open.
